Day 1 : San Jose Arrival

A representative from Costa Rican Trails will meet you at the Juan Santamaría International Airport and will provide transportation to your hotel in the Central Valley Mountains.

Day 2 : Poas Volcano, Doka, Grecia & Sarchi Oxcart Factory

As we ascend towards the volcano we stop for a brief explanation on our golden bean, coffee, and then continue our trip through fern, flower and strawberry farms.

At the Poas Volcano we will have time to enjoy the impressive main crater with its sulfur fumaroles, and hike on a trail to the beautiful Botos Lagoon. After visiting the volcano, we will have time to enjoy a delicious lunch in one of the typical restaurants of the area. Our next stop is the town of Grecia. Considered one of the cleanest towns of Latin America, it is home to the only Metal Church in Central America. In order to catch a glimpse of local lifestyle we will also visit the central market area. Our last stop is Sarchi, known as the Cradle of Costa Rican Artisans because of its fine workshops. Here we will have time to enjoy the artistic work of the local artisans as they create the famous typical oxcart; you will be able to shop for souvenirs to take home.

Day 3 : San Jose to Mal Pais

Transfer to Local Airport and domestic flight to Mal Pais.

Mal Pais lies at the southeastern tip of the Nicoya Peninsula in Puntarenas province. Around 4 km north of the Cabo Blanco National Park, this quaint beachfront village is fast becoming one of Costa Rica’s hottest tourist attractions. Extending some 6 kilometers east to west, Mal Pais is a great place to kick back, relax and surf some great waves, a surfer’s paradise! With lush vegetation growing alongside the coast, this uncrowned area is perfect for those who want a peaceful and quiet vacation away from the crowds. Mal Pais is just a few miles south of Playa Santa Teresa. This beach also offers plenty of water sports such as fishing tours, sports fishing, scuba diving and kite surfing and snorkeling. For those who prefer some land based activities there is horseback riding, canopy tours, mountain biking, quad biking and some great hiking trails to explore.
