Day 1 : San Jose Arrival

A representative from Costa Rican Trails will meet you at the Juan Santamaría International Airport and will provide transportation to your hotel in the Capital.

Day 2 : Car Rental – Arenal Volcano Area

After breakfast a representative from a car rental company will meet you at the lobby and will provide transportation to the Car Rental office to pick up a Standard 4x4.

Then, you are off to drive to Arenal Volcano area.

With its several protected areas, lakes, lagoons, volcanoes, rivers and waterfalls, the Northern Zone is undergoing a boom in tourism service and adventure site development, so that nature-loving visitors can enjoy the region’s many riches. Thanks to frequent rains, the Northern Zone features wet and evergreen forests as well as fertile plains—natural environments that serve as sanctuaries for water birds, reptiles, mammals and the prehistoric Gaspar fish, and important sites of interest for wildlife-lovers. Adventure activities and nature-watching may be enjoyed on the region’s rivers—Peñas Blancas, San Carlos, Toro, Puerto Viejo and Sarapiquí—some of which are important navigational routes. Forming part of the region is the Sarapiquí¬ canton, which, with its rich biodiversity, is recognized as a scientific research site and the last stronghold of endangered species such as the great green macaw. The region is famous for the turnos (outdoor parties or festivals) held in its towns, with bull riding and livestock auctions.

Day 3 : Arenal Canopy Tour

Moving through the rain forest, above the Arenal River Canyon, our tour offers all of our clients an unforgettable encounter with nature. Hotel pickups are available approximately 15 minutes before each tour starts. Transportation until the first platform is included. Once there, you will be briefed on the tour and safety measures. The Arenal canopy tour consists of 13 platforms reaching up to 130 feet in high, 9 cables reaching up to 230 feet high and a maximum length of 103 feet. There is also a 1.68 feet long hanging bridge between platforms. The entire run between platforms takes between 1.5 to 2 hours, depending o the number of people taking the tour. The canopy tour ends when the client reaches the rappel, next to the river. The rappel is a single run of 157 ft. It can be done in a fast and exciting way, or slow and fun. Once the tour is over, whether it be canopy or rappel, the client walks 65 to 70 ft. before arriving where the bus and the horses are. The client has the option of returning in the bus or by riding a horse for an additional cost. Duration. From 2 to 3 hours approximately. Includes: Transportation from hotels located in La Fortuna, specialized guide and safety equipment.

Day 5 : Arenal to Tamarindo

Drive to your next destination, Tamarindo.

Tamarindo is among the most popular vacation destinations in Costa Rica! Besides surfing, swimming, snorkeling, sailing, kayaking, jet skiing, horseback riding and scuba diving, you can visit the nearby wildlife refuge of Diriá, as well as the Marino Las Baulas National Park, where leatherback turtles come every summer to nest and breed. Daily tours are available to other fun and interesting destinations such as the Palo Verde National Park and Rincon de la Vieja National Park.

Day 6 : Lazy Lizard Catamarán Sailing

Your tour will start aboard our Catamaran at the Flamingo Marina giving us access to some of the most beautiful secluded beaches and snorkel locations in Costa Rica. There you will have the opportunity to experience marine wildlife such as: dolphins, whales, sea turtles, tropical fish, and manta rays. Sailing along the coastline will give you a completely different view of Costa Rica and our professional and friendly crew will make your experience on board a memorable one, serving you refreshments throughout the cruise. You can take part in activities that are suitable for all ages, such as: guided snorkel tours, swimming, kayaking, and fishing.
